National Cherry Festival named '2017 Air Show Site of the Year'
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- If you love the National Cherry Festival, it just got a whole lot better!
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds just announced that the festival has been named 2017 Air Show Site of the Year.
The announcement was made during the International Council of Air Shows conference in Las Vegas.
Steve Plamondon, who serve's as the Festival's Air Boss, was in attendance with Festival Executive Director Kat Paye.
“What an honor it is to receive this award, particularly after receiving it just two years earlier, I was so proud to learn that the award is determined by the entire U.S. Air Force Thunderbird team, not just a single officer or the pilots," said Plamondon. "This honor shows just how well our entire community rolls out the ‘cherry red carpet’ for every distinguished guest coming to the National Cherry Festival."
The Festival Air Show, featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, will take to the skies during the National Cherry Festival's opening weekend June 30th and July 1st.
