MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- A 46-year-old Manistee woman is behind bars following a stabbing investigation.

Officials were called to a home on the 300 block of 4th Street in Manistee around 5:18 a.m. Tuesday.

A 51-year-old man was found with stab wounds inside the home and he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators are not saying much more at this time, but neighbors say they heard a couple arguing early Tuesday morning.

The neighbors say the man and his wife lived at the home together with their young son and a daughter but separated recently.

Neighbor, Cyrilla Staffeld says her son and his friend were supposed to stay the night at the couples home Monday night.

"I didn't think this would happen, not here in Manistee, not right across the street," Staffeld explained.

"This really is a close knit neighborhood and everybody knows everybody, the kids all play together," another neighbor explained. "Now the kids are just thinking about their friend who is their age, [the couple's son], they hope he is doing alright during all of this."

Friends and family say they are sending prayers to the families impacted by Tuesdays' incident.

The Manistee Police Department is still investigating what lead to the stabbing. They were assisted by the Little Band of Ottawa Indians Police, Manistee County Sheriff's Office, and the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Anyone who may have any information related to the ongoing investigation is asked to call the Manistee Police Department at (231) 723-2533.
