Sailors and shoppers have found a new reason to visit Boyne City today.
The ribbon was cut Tuesday morning at the new shopperâ??s pier close to downtown Boyne City which is expected to bring more traffic to the downtown area, boosting the economy during boating season.
Boaters can dock at the pier for a few hours for free. The pier can also be used for fishing.
The shopperâ??s pier is just one of the recent improvements to the Boyne City Marina. Last fall, the dredging project was completed, improvements are being made on some docks in preparation for the busy July 4 weekend.
Boyne City Harbormaster Barb Brooks said there are plans to add an expansion to accommodate a 10-year wait-list she has for the current slips in the marina.
