Northern Michigan food pantries stocked by Meijer
NORTHERN MICHIGAN (WPBN/WGTU) -- Three northern Michigan food pantries are getting big donations thanks to a Grand Rapids-based company.
The Meijer Simply Give program set a record in 2017 with nearly $8.5 million in donations, which is equivalent to at least 84.8 million meals, to our community food pantry partners across the Midwest.
The $87,400 was raised at the Alpena Meijer during the holiday Simply Give campaign, which equals at least 874,000 meals, will go to the St. Vincent de Paul Emergency Food Pantry.
$67,420, or at least 674,200 meals, was raised at the Gaylord Meijer and will go towards the Otsego County Community Food Pantry.
$57,030, or 570,300 meals, was raised by the Petoskey Meijer and will go towards the Manna Food Project.
Feeding America says $1 equals at least 10 meals.
“It’s inspiring to see friends and neighbors come together to take care of hungry families throughout the communities we serve,” Executive Chairman Hank Meijer said.
Last year's total bring's the program's overall donation to more than $37 million since its start in 2008.
