Northport woman facing charges following car crash
LEELANAU COUNTY, Mi. (WPBN/WGTU) —
An 18-year-old Northport woman is facing criminal charges after investigators say she failed to report a car crash.
On Feb. 15, Northport Fire and Rescue and the Leelanau County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on East Melkild Road near North Nelson Road.
When investigators got to the scene, they found a grey Pontiac Grand Prix down an embankment. No one was inside the vehicle.
Deputies were able to find the 18-year-old driver at a home on North Foxview Drive. She told deputies that the crash occurred on Feb. 14 around 11:00 pm. She said she lost control of the vehicle when a deer ran out in front of her.
The woman told deputies she failed to report the accident because her driver's license was currently expired.
The deputy issued the woman a citation for failing to report a traffic crash and for having an expired license.
The driver was not injured in the crash, and she is expected to appear back in court at a later date.
