Old man winter draws a crowd and sparks contest on Mackinac Island

Despite blooming tulips and green grass, winter lingers on with a lone snow pile at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island.

Despite blooming tulips and green grass, winter lingers on with a lone snow pile at Mission Point Resort.

Even with recent sunshine and high temperatures, the snow bank is still about 3 feet high at the time of this article posting on June 4.

Hotel staff has affectionately named the frozen bank "Olaf" after the Disney character and it's certainly drawing a crowd. Visitors stop by the hotel along Main Street and snap photos of the last bit of winter.

Mission Point Resort has also created a Facebook contest titled "Snow Pile Watch 2014". Fans of Mission Point Resort's Facebook page can leave the date and time they believe the snow will disappear and finally give way to summer.
