One arrested after 20-year-old woman found dead in Hillman
MONTMORENCY COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- A 20-year-old woman was found dead at a home in Rust Township leading to an arrest.
Central Dispatch got a 911 call around 6 p.m. Wednesday for a possible stabbing on Klein Road.
Deputies from the Montmorency County Sheriff's Office and EMS from the Hillman Fire Department got to the scene and found 20-year-old Kelsi Barrie dead inside a home.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post as well as additional detectives also responded to the home.
A joint investigation between the two agencies then began.
Based on the initial scene, the woman was believed to be the victim of a homicide. A suspect, who was known to the victim, was quickly developed.
Troopers and detectives from the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team (HUNT) later found the suspect as he was arriving at his home around 8:40 p.m.
The suspect was detained and taken to the MSP Alpena Post.
The suspect was then interviewed by detectives and placed under arrest for the victim's murder.
Though investigators don't believe there are any other suspects involved in this homicide, some neighbors are still concerned.
"There has been things happening here the last few years that never used to happen, within a couple of miles," said Kathi Edwards, a concerned neighbor. "Now it's come down to a couple of houses down."
Edwards said she will keep the victim's family in her prayers.
Police have not yet released a motive or a relationship between the victim and the suspect.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Friday.
