Onekama man dies from injuries in morning car crash

The Manistee County Sheriff's Office said the driver, Roland Clement, was headed north on Main Street when he failed to make the curve in the road. His car left the road kitting a large tree near the parking lot of the Farr Center.

A 80-year-old Onekama man died from injuries stemming from a car crash late Monday morning.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. Monday morning on Main Street near Fifth Street in Onekama.

The Manistee County Sheriff's Office said the driver, Roland Clement, was headed north on Main Street when he failed to make the curve in the road. His car left the road kitting a large tree near the parking lot of the Farr Center.

He had to be extracted from the car using the jaws of life and was transported to West Shore Medical Center before being taken to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was placed in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The Sheriff's Office said an investigation revealed Clement was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor.
