Organizations set a day for beach clean-up after Cherry Festival

After a week long of Cherry Festival fun, the beaches on Grand Traverse Bay will be in need of some helping hands to restore the shores.

After a week long of Cherry Festival fun, the beaches on Grand Traverse Bay will be in need of some helping hands to restore the shores.

Sunday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay is joining forces with Barefoot Wine and Bubbly as well as the Alliance for the Great Lakes to help pick up the beaches.

"The city will be going through to groom the beach early that morning," says program coordinator with the Watershed Center, Maureen Pfaller, "but up in the bushes, rocks, on the lawn, and in the water are all places that the groomer can't get to and will be our focus."

If you are interested in lending a helping hand, volunteers are asked to RSVP by calling (231) 935-1514 x 0, email mmcmanus@gtbay.org or by visiting the event page set up on the the Watershed Center of Grand Traverse Bay's Facebook and click join.

When volunteers arrive on July 13, look for the Barefoot Wine and Bubbly tent around the W. end beach volleyball courts to register and get clean-up gear. An after party will be held to thank volunteers who are 21 or older from 12-1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn.
