Owner of Duncan Bay derelict vessels has two months
The owner of three boats sitting in a Cheboygan County bay since August of 2010 has two months to remove them or the cost could be on the backs of tax payers.
Scotlund Stivers was given six months to remove the boats this past august as part of a delayed sentencing deal.
Two of the derelict boats are still in the bay; a tugboat sits surrounded by ice and another has sunk.
The third, a car ferry, has been moved to a dock in downtown Cheboygan.
Stivers was told to remove the boats after two of them leaked oil in 2010.
If the boats aren't removed and a restitution isn't paid, the prosecutor tells us the cost of removal and about $50,000 in oil clean-up costs likely would be forced upon taxpayers.
