The Village of Empire will soon begin charging $1 per hour for parking at Empire Beach.
The council and the trust fund have approved the 90-day trial.
The only holdup is waiting on the arrival of the "parking machine" that will be located near the public restrooms. Drivers will decide how many hours they will be at the beach and a time-stamped ticket will be printed to be placed in your car window.
Cars will be required to have the tickets in the windows.
The money raised through the parking fees will help pay costs for a beach attendant and a summer deputy. The need for these positions arose after traffic control issues were presented. Emergency vehicles have had issues in the past with being able to get into the area due to high traffic and illegal parking.
The money may also help with beach maintenance.
