Caregiver remembers woman who was hit and killed on M-72
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- The woman who was run over and killed by an SUV in Grand Traverse County is being remembered by a past caregiver.
Deputies say 64 year-old Mary Cavanaugh of Traverse City was laying down on M-72 West near Angus Road when she was run over.
We're told Mary lived at Tower Hill, an adult foster care home near the scene of the accident.
Kelly Pearson, the owner of Munson House adult foster care, says she was Mary’s caregiver for more than three years.
Pearson says Mary was a kind woman who will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
“I’m sad. I feel bad that something like this would happen to someone in our community,” said Kelly Pearson. “The main memory that I have is just sitting and playing cards with her and just watching her reactions when she would win. Sometimes we would kind of like let her win just to get the reaction out of her because she was like ‘ha ha I beat you!’ which made her day.”
It's unclear why Mary was laying down in the street, but deputies hope the autopsy will shed some light on the reason. The autopsy was conducted in Kalamazoo on Friday.
We're told Mary's family lives in Bay City.
