Plane connected to Michigan missing persons case crashes in Canada
ONTARIO (WPBN/WGTU)-- A plane connected to a missing persons case in Michigan has crashed in northern Ontario, authorities say.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), a single engine Cessna 172 crashed Wednesday around 11:58 p.m.
OPP says the wreckage was found around 37 miles east of Marathon, Ontario.
Details are limited, but the Transportation Safety Board of Canada says the aircraft departed from Ann Arbor. Its intended destination is not known at this time.
The TSB says investigators could not find anyone in or near the wreckage.
The TSB says the plane was rented out of Ann Arbor and it's related to a missing persons case being handled by the Michigan State Police and the University of Michigan Police Department.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the plane crash with the assistance of the Marathon OPP Detachment members and Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT).
