Planning commission waves caution flag on proposed racetrack
The Cheboygan County Planning Commission waved the caution flag on a proposed racetrack in Indian River Wednesday night.
The planning commission voted not to recommend the re-zoning proposed site.
The land will have to be re-zoned before the track is built.
Members gave several reasons for not giving the recommendation, including inconsistency with and potential loss of nearby property values.
They also said there are other areas for the track that would not require re-zoning.
The proposed site near Griswold Mountain is owned by Indian River native Mark Hall, the founder of Monster energy drinks.
Hall has said the track would pump millions into the local economy.
Even without the recommendation, county commissioners can still vote to re-zone.
They have not set a date for that vote yet.
