Police ID body found in field, investigating death as 'suspicious'
Police have identified the man that was found dead in a East Bay Township field Tuesday.
The 32-year-old male victim, of Traverse City, was identified by a family member. His name will not be released until his entire family is notified.
While police say there was no trauma to the body, which indicates no foul play, they are investigating it as a suspicious death because of where he was found.
Two horseback riders discovered the body while riding in a field near Farm Lane, in what police call "Section 31" of East Bay Township. He was found fully clothed, face down, with an article of clothing covering his face. He also had a black backpack with him, which authorities have not disclosed the contents of.
An autopsy in Grand Rapids showed no signs of trauma to the body, but officials are still waiting for toxicology results to determine the cause of death.
