      Police investigating 'brutal beating' death of dog in Newberry

      Max the dog was stabbed and brutally beaten at his Newberry home.

      Police in the U.P. are now trying to figure out who brutally beat and stabbed a dog to death in broad daylight.

      Newberry family says they came home last week to find the body of their family pet still tied to it's chain.

      Wilcox's 4-year-old lab mix, named Max, usually welcomes her home everyday.

      Monday she found him lying in the mud, lifeless.

      standing by the tree over here in my backyard and seen that he was cut in the stomach and he was still on the chain and everything

      ," Wilcox said.

      he immediately called 9-1-1.

      hen police arrived and began to investigate

      ,

      they also found a gash on the dog's head.

      've heard of people doing in the middle of the night w

      hen

      nobody was around

      ,

      but in broad daylight

      ," Wilcox said.



      "Somebody has

      got a lot of guts to do it

      ."

      State Police aren't releasing many details due to the nature of this case.

      ilcox says another neighbor has been dealing with a similar situation that happened two weeks ago.

      er neighbor told her she came home to find her cat dead.

      and she wasn't home either

      ," Wilcox said.

      Wilcox on edge and worrying about her family's safety.

      ," Wilcox said.

      f they can do that to a dog like this that could be very vicious if it wants to
