Police investigating incident that caused 7-week-old baby to be hospitalized with head injuries
A 7-week-old baby from Cadillac is still listed in critical condition after head injuries put her in the hospital over the weekend, but police say she is becoming more stable.
The Cadillac Police Department is investigating how the baby girl received the head injuries.
"These are real serious and important investigations and we just take our time and make sure we get them right," said Lt. Todd Golnick.
Police were alerted to the situation on Saturday by Wexford-Missaukee Child Protective Services.
The baby had been taken to Cadillac Mercy Hospital Friday evening around 9 p.m. after her parents called for an ambulance. She was later taken to DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Police report the baby lives with her parents at Cadillac Shores Apartments in the City of Cadillac.
"Child protective services has jurisdiction whenever there is any sort of abuse against a child and the perpetrator is in the same home," said Lt. Golnick. "So in this particular investigation we are looking to see how the injuries were caused on the baby and who could be responsible."
Golnick says that the baby's condition needs to continue to improve in order for doctors to run certain tests to determine the extent of her injuries.
"At this point we're not going to be real comfortable with the exact prognosis until the physicians can do the proper diagnosis and do the proper tests that they need to do to give us that," said Lt. Golnick.
According to police, the investigation is in the preliminary stages and no further information will be released, including the names of the family.
