Police say suspect kidnapped, sexually assaulted teen girl in Kalamazoo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A suspect is now facing charges after police say he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a young girl in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo Public Safety tells us they got a call from the victim just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. The 13-year-old girl called 911 saying she had been abducted and was being held upstairs in a house on Clinton Street.
Officers say they were able to narrow down their search to a specific house. When they made contact, police say the victim and suspect were both inside.
Investigators tell us the victim was waiting for the bus in the 1600 block of Portage Road when she was approached by the suspect and forced into his car. They say he then drove her to the house on Clinton where she was sexually assaulted.
The victim was able to call 911 when someone else came home unexpectedly and the suspect briefly left the victim alone.
We're told the victim and suspect did not know each other before this incident.
The suspect was arrested for kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in the 1st degree. He is being held at the Kalamazoo County jail until he is formally charged.
