Police searching for men after alleged abduction and sexual assault
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- Police are on the lookout for two men who allegedly abducted a woman who was walking down the street, then sexually assaulted her before she escaped.
The Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department says two men in a blue van pulled up in front of a restaurant on a busy part of M-27, opened the back doors and pulled the woman inside.
The sheriff says it happened on Sunday afternoon around 3:45, while the victim was going from business to business applying for jobs.
“It kind of scares me, because my kids walk home from school," said Janine Dorey, who works at the restaurant next to where the woman says she was abducted. "It’s a little scary too. I mean anybody could have saw anything, you know, and unfortunately they didn’t, because they ended up taking her.”
After putting the victim in the van, the sheriff's department says the two men drove about five miles to a dead-end street in Benton Township.
That's where the 33-year-old victim reported being sexually assaulted.
She was able to get away from the van and run to a nearby house to call 911.
“She believes one to be in his fifties with dark hair over his ears, and the other individual was a slender-built man in his forties," said Sheriff Dale Clarmont.
The sheriff believes the two men are from the area, and deputies are also on the lookout for that blue van.
“What we’re looking for is blue, 90’s van with a possible ladder rack on the top and possible five-gallon buckets filled with tools and electrical cords in the interior," Clarmont said.
The sheriff's department is going through security video from businesses surrounding the area.
They also plan to have sketches of the suspects soon.
The sheriff's department is urging anyone with information on the two suspects or that van to contact them.
