Police warn businesses to beware of counterfeit cash
The Alpena Police Department is warning area businesses of an increase in counterfeit money.
The most recent counterfeit cash was turned into an Alpena area bank on April 4. The employees of the bank noticed the money appeared to look and feel different and called police.
The $100 counterfeit money was checked with the U.S. Secret Service. The Secret Service classified the counterfeit $100 bill as high quality counterfeit currency.
If anyone attempts to pass counterfeit money police ask you to get as much information as possible about the person and contact your local police department.
