Portion of Garfield Road to stay closed until midday Thursday
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The portion of Garfield Road impacted by a paint truck crash will be closed until midday Thursday.
Crews are doing environmental cleanup in the area between Potter and Three Mile roads and expect the road to be open around noon Thursday.
Once the clean up is finished the guard rail in the area of the crash will be replaced.
The driver was heading toward Three Mile Road around 7 a.m. when the truck left the road.
The truck, from PK Contracting, was carrying water-based paint that is used to line roads at the time of the crash.
Investigators said up to 1,000 gallons or more of paint fell off the truck.
Due to the toxicity of the paint, the Grand Traverse Health Department is warning people to stay away from the areas impacted by the spill.
The health department said there is no threat to wells or drinking water and the water around the crash site is not a tributary of the Boardman River.
