Possible arson may be linked to domestic violence charges
Michigan State Police are investigating an arson that may be tied to a domestic violence case.
While flames inside the Vanderbilt house of Dawn Weatherwax, 41, were being extinguished, Weatherwax was being arrested by Michigan State Police for domestic violence charges.
The fire broke out Friday evening at the home on Old 27 North just north of Vanderbilt road. The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
"When I finally got down there no emergency services had shown up yet," said neighbor Alvin Sitkiewicz. "There were people running around outside, screaming and yelling, and the house was totally engulfed in flames."
According to Otsego County Prosecutor Michael Rola, is waiting for fire marshals to complete their investigation before they can make an arrest.
"As far as the cause of the fire I don't know yet," said Rola. "As far as the parties that were present as the fire occurred, I don't know yet either."
Rola said he expects to have the fire marshal's report on the incident sometime this week.
Some neighbors who witnessed the fire said they heard a female voice say "I started the fire."
Weatherwax was released on $4,000 bond.
