Despite a burn-ban in Chippewa County, a bonfire ended up destroying three homes this weekend.
Firefighters 3 different departments near Kinross Township, battled the blaze for nearly five hours.
The fire started when some residents of Shady Oaks Mobile Home Park were burning trash behind a shed.
When the wind picked up and started burning the leaves around the fire pit the blaze spread quickly and engulfed three trailers and one car on the south side of the park in itâ??s flames.
One firefighter and one resident were treated for smoke inhalation.
Another resident suffered minor burns.
â??It was all easily prevented,â?? said Kinross Fire Department Chief Edward Jenerou. â??In the end it destroyed 3 people's lives; everything they own is gone.â??
DNR requires that before you start an outside fire you should check to make sure there are no burn bans in your area.
Michigan Fire Marshal reported more than 3,000 rubbish fires last year.
