Potters packs up paczkis for Fat Tuesday
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A busy day for Potter's Bakery as customers keep staff on their feet and it's all leading up to the busiest day of the year.
"Gosh, we are out the door pretty much all day," Owner Kathy Potter said.
A Fat Tuesday Tradition... The paczki.
"It's polish," Potter said. "I guess the tradition is that of winter the day before lent, you take your flour, your butter, your sugar, any of your fruit and you make your paczki. You fill it with your fruit or your cream or custard filling, and enjoy that before the start of lent, before you have to give up sugar."
Potter said they will fill and sell more than 12,000 paczkis this year.
The bakery began making paczkis last Thursday and as of Monday, they had already filled 100 orders.
Since Thursday its been all hands on deck making delicious desserts.
"A lot of preparing as far as making sure we have enough help in here that we have enough registers out in the store," Potter said.
Potters has more than a dozen flavors and they cater to everyone's taste in treats.
