Prisoner escape from jail van lasts 15 minutes
A dash toward freedom from a jail van by a Michigan man accused of felonious assault and failure to register as a sex offender lasted about 15 minutes.
The Midland County sheriff's office says in a release that the 35-year-old Midland man "bypassed a locking mechanism" on the county transport van and jumped from the rear when the vehicle stopped about noon Tuesday at an intersection.
Authorities say a 25-year-old man driving a truck saw the still-handcuffed man hiding by a freeway overpass. He stopped and told the escaped man to "get on the ground" and that police were on the way. He flagged down an officer after the man began running again.
The escaped man was caught a short time later and taken to the Midland County Jail.
