A report that was just released points toward a merger between two northern Michigan fire departments.
Traverse City fire officials brought up the idea to the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department about three years ago.
Chief Pat Parker with the Metro Fire Department said he wanted a professional opinion about a possible merger.
The study began in February, and now that officials have the results the two fire departments will meet with a consultant next week to figure out the next step.
â??We're looking at this on a regional basis of what's good for our region. Right now the two parties that are at least interested in talking are of course Traverse City and Metro so the report said that all in all we're doing a pretty good job at bringing value to our citizens,â?? said Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department Chief Pat Parker.
According to the report a merger between the two departments will save money in the long run.
Fire officials say it's too early to determine if a merger will happen.
