Safe stolen from Casman school, suspects arrested
After a three month investigation of a theft and break-in from the Casman School in Manistee County, two suspects have been arrested.
A 23-year-old from Free Soil and a 14-year-old from Manistee are facing multiple charges including breaking and entering.
According to the Manistee Police Department, the break-in of the school happened on May 12 where a subject got into the building through the roof. The subject(s) stole several items including a safe.
Inside the safe was cash, medications, as well as gas cards.
An officer from the Manistee Police Department found the safe in the Manistee Lake near the 9th street boat launch.
Gas cards from the stolen safe were tracked. Video was then found of the suspects using the stolen cards.
Authorities secured search warrants and recovered the stolen property. A 20 count felony warrant was issued for the 23-year-old suspect, Andrew Blue Lawrence, for breaking and entering as well as safe breaking. Authorities say both those charges are life felonies.
The 14-year-old is facing the same charges as Lawrence.
Lawrence was taken into custody on Tuesday.
