Search underway for missing fisherman

UPDATE 5:00pm Tuesday:

Dive teams have found the body of a fisherman who fell through the ice in Wexford County.

Around 6:15pm Monday night, 33 year-old Billy Platz of Mesick fell through the ice on Hodenpyl Pond.

Platz had been out fishing with a friend when he went through.

Troopers say his friend tried to save him but couldn't.

Search crews scoured the water Monday night and Tuesday.

Platz's body was found around 3:30pm Tuesday afternoon about 75 yards off shore, in about 12 feet of water.


The State Police dive team will continue to search for the body of a missing fisherman Tuesday afternoon in Wexford County.

The man was ice fishing with a friend at Hodenpyl Dam near Mesick when he fell through Monday around 6:15pm.

The Coast Guard was called out to help in the search but was later called off. The Michigan State Police as well as the Wexford County Sheriff's Office searched the area until around 10:00pm.

7&4 News is told the State Police divers will be at the area around 2pm to try and recover the man's body.
