Settlement reached in death of Central Lake woman

Diane Shafer was killed in a crash by a drunk driver, Thomas Altobelli, who was sentenced to 3-15 years in prison for the crime.

An out-of-court settlement has been reached in the death of a Central Lake woman in 2012.

Diane Shafer was killed in a crash by a drunk driver, Thomas Altobelli, who was sentenced to 3-15 years in prison for the crime.

Shafer's family then filed a personal injury lawsuit against Altobelli and the Green Lantern Bar, in her death.

According to the attorney for Shafer's husband, Paul, the settlement is more than $600,000.

The bar is contributing $50,000 through its insurance bond.

The settlement provides a deed to property Altobelli owns in order to assure payment.

Altobelli is serving his sentence at the West Shoreline Correctional Facility. His earliest release date is May 17, 2016.
