Severe weather causes tree to fall on car, driver killed

Investigators said Frederick Green, 68, died after a tree fell on the car he was driving. His wife, Phyllis, 59, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

OGEMAW COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- One person is dead after the severe weather over the weekend in parts of northern Michigan.

Ogemaw County sheriff's deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on Sage Lake Road near Craun Road in Richland Township around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigators said Frederick Green, 68, and his wife Phyllis Green, 59, were traveling on Sage Lake Road when high winds and heavy rain caused a tree to fall on their vehicle.

Crews from the Richland Township Fire Department said they had to extract both occupants from the vehicle.

Frederick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Phyllis was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
