Sewing groups make quilts for military members, veterans
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A group of women in Fife Lake come together to make special quilts for the active and retired military.
The sewing groups, Pins and Needles and Quilts of Valor, made four quilts Saturday at the America Legion Post 219 in Fife Lake.
The quilts are all handmade and stitched by all of the women who attended the event.
The quilts will be going to active military members or military veterans who are nominated to receive the quilts.
Organizers say they look forward to making these quilts for the people who deserve them most.
"We believe that as we quilt our gratitude and love is put into each stitch and each piece of fabric that we put together so for us we just want them to know that we appreciate them thoroughly and we may never know the extent of their sacrifice but we know that it was a sacrifice none the less," said Jessica Kass, Quilts of Valor state coordinator.
Organizers with the Quilts of Valor group say these quilts will probably be given away at their Memorial Day ceremony.
