      Shelter rescues cats from abandoned Mio home

      According to Shelley Olree, the owner and operator of SOS, the shelter that handled the rescue, the cats were left inside without food or water for at least three weeks.

      At least 30 cats were rescued from an abandoned home in Mio on Tuesday.

      Workers from the shelter rescued 23 cats Thursday evening and are currently live trapping the remaining cats.

      According to the shelter's Facebook page, workers had to cut cats out of mattresses in the bedroom.

      The shelter is trying to raise funds to help with the costs of care for the animals. The shelter has currently raised $530, but are hoping to raise a total of $2,000. If you'd like to donate, click here.
