Sheriff warns of pressure cracks on Houghton Lake before Tip-Up-Town
ROSCOMMON COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Roscommon County Sheriff's Office is warning everyone to be extra cautious during the annual Tip-Up-Town event this month.
The department posted the warning Wednesday on Facebook.
In the photos, you can see several pressure cracks are developing on the Houghton Lake and will continue with the weather changes.
According to the sheriff's office, there is one pressure crack very close to the festival site.
The department is reminding everyone that no ice is ever safe ice but they are receiving reports that most of the lake has a foot or more of ice at this time.
Everyone is advised to use caution if they venture out onto the ice and be prepared for all situations.
Tip-Up-Town 2018 is scheduled to take place January 19-21 and January 26-28.
