Sheriff's department releases information on suicide attempts at jail
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- After filing a Freedom of Information Act form, we now know the history of attempted suicides at the Grand Traverse County Jail.
According to the Traverse City Police Department, there have been a total of 27 suicide attempt in the jail since July 2015.
Of the 27, only two were successful.
On February 28, Marilyn Palmer, 36, was found dead in her jail cell shower.
Investigators said Palmer pleaded guilty in January to one count of identity theft and was sentenced to three months in jail in February.
In July 2017, Alan Halloway, 41, committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell at the Grand Traverse County Jail.
Two officers were fired in connection with Halloway's death.
UpNorthLve has filed an FOIA for the investigation report by the Traverse City Police Department into the Palmer suicide.
The police chief has filed for an additional 10 days before releasing that information saying the investigation is not finished.
