Snow...some of it heavy


WINTER STORM WARNING for Alpena, Cheboygan, Montmorency, Presque Isle, Charlevoix, Emmet, Oscoda, and Otsego Counties until noon Thursday. Heavy snow is expected. Snow totals will be mostly in the 4 to 8 inch range, but some towns could see as much as 12 inches. Plan on slow travel...with difficult driving conditions expected on secondary roads tonight and Thursday morning.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Antrim, Crawford, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Benzie, Leelanau, Manistee, Gladwin, Missaukee, Roscommon, and Wexford Counties until noon Thursday. Snow totals will be lower than in the Winter Storm Warning area, but travel will be just as slow. Totals in the advisory counties will be 2 to 6 inches tonight and Thursday morning.

Tonight we'll see the heaviest snow from this slow moving storm. Be especially careful in the warning and advisory areas, but roads could be icy anywhere around northern Michigan. Outside the warning and advisory zones...look for a trace of snow to maybe an inch. Overnight lows all over northern Michigan will be in the 20s. Wind tonight will be from the northwest 10-20 mph with gusts near Lake Michigan up to 25 mph.

Thursday...most of the snow will fall in the morning. More snow showers are expected at any time, but they will be scattered and light in the afternoon. Wind may become an issue. Gusts from the northwest to 25 mph are expected. The highest winds will be near Lake Michigan. The wind will blow the new snow around and create even more travel troubles. Drifting and visibility will be problems. Daytime highs 30 to 36 not much melting is expected.

Thursday night...more snow showers. Wind gusts from the northwest to 25 mph. Lows from 18 to 28 degrees.

Friday morning we'll see scattered light snow showers. In the afternoon, a little sun may break thru the clouds. Highs 28 to 35 degrees. Wind from the northwest 10-20 mph.

Saturday we're expecting some sunshine. Highs 30 to 38 degrees.

Sunday will be a bit cloudy. In the could run into a stray snow shower. In the evening look for snow showers to move back into the state. Highs Sunday afternoon in the 30s.
