Soccer meets the links in FootGolf

Dozens are flocking to area golf courses to give the new game a try.

Two gigantic events start Thursday in the world of sports; the U.S. Open golf tournament and the kickoff match for the 2014 World Cup.

Northern Michgian has found a way to combine both games in a new craze that's sweeping the nation. Its called FootGolf. It's very similar to the game of golf but on these links you're kicking a soccer ball out of the tee box.

Strokes are assessed just like in golf, but on the greens you have a much larger 21-inch hole target as opposed to the traditional 4.25 inches.

Shanty Creek Resort's Summit Golf Course is one of three locations in the area that offers FootGolf along with Elmbrook in Traverse City and Treetops Resort in Gaylord.
