Social media helps locate accused intruder in Leelanau County

A 25-year-old man, living in Benzie County, was arrested for two related incidents of home invasion near S. Shore Dr. in Suttons Bay Township.
According to the Leelanau County Sheriff's office, the first incident occurred around midnight on May 6 when a homeowner on S. Shore Dr. was startled after hearing a noise in their kitchen. The home owner surprised the male intruder which led to the suspect fleeing.
The second incident occurred on July 16 when a homeowner on S. Shore Dr. heard someone trying to get into their home through the sliding glass door. The homeowner called 911 and the officer located the suspect. The suspect pushed the officer to the ground and fled.
The suspect was not found that night but evidence was gathered at the scene.
The Sherriff's office says they placed information of these incidents on social media as well as the Sheriff's blog. The public responded to those post and provided valuable information about the suspect. The suspect was identified and found in Benzie County.
According to the Sheriff's office, the man was arrested on a charge of attempted home invasion and assaulting/resisting/obstructing law enforcement.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
