      Speed may have been factor in fatal Chippewa County crash

      One man was killed after he lost control of his car on Mackinac Trail in Dafter Township.

      One man was killed after he lost control of his car on Mackinac Trail in Dafter Township.

      Michigan State Police said the crash occurred on Saturday when the driver and lone occupant, James Thompson, 30, of Sault Ste. Marie, lost control of his car, running off the road, hitting several trees and overturning.

      Authorities believe speed was a factor in the crash.

      State Police said Thompson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

      The crash is still under investigation.
