MANITOWOC, Wis., (WPBN/WGTU) – The weekend’s intense storm left significant damage to the S.S. Badger dock in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

It was caused by high winds and heavy waves which lead to shore erosion.

Company officials say they have workers on their way to Manitowoc to assess the damage.

We’re told once they are there, they will meet with city officials to immediately begin the necessary repair work.

Right now they say the repairs to the ferry's dock will be completed before the S.S Badger begins their sailing season on May 11.

The S.S. Badger is the last coal-fired passenger steamship in operation in the United States.

From May to October the Badger sails daily between Manitowoc, WI and Ludington, MI. According to company officials, the 410-foot ferry can accommodate 600 passengers and 180 vehicles.
