A seiche, which is a standing wave oscillating, has caused the waters in the Petoskey Marina to rise on Thursday morning.
According to the Director of Parks and Recreation in Petoskey, Al Hansen says that this is caused by atmospheric conditions, which can be produced by storms over the lakes.
Hansen also says that the city sees the seiches often but this seiche was higher than normal. The seiche that occurred on Thursday morning lasted for about 30 minutes to an hour and went back down to normal levels.
Hansen explained that high and low pressures put force on the water and the high pressure forces one side of the lake to rise.
