Kelli Stapleton appeared in a Benzie County courtroom Tuesday morning.
A state-contracted doctor has completed a criminal responsibility evaluation to determine Stapleton's state of mind at the time of the crime.
In court, the defense was given the green light to file a motion to have an independent doctor perform the same evaluation.
The results of the initial evaluation are not being released.
Stapleton has already passed an evaluation that declared she was mentally fit to stand trial, but this evaluation would determine her competency at the time of the crime.
The court also discussed the date of her trial, which is now tentatively scheduled for late July, but may be changed to do scheduling conflicts.
Stapleton is accused of attempting to kill herself and her 14-year-old daughter, Isabelle. She is facing a charge of attempted murder.
Stapleton remains in the Benzie County Jail on a $1.5 million bond.
