State Police identify man who died after canoe capsized in West Grand Traverse Bay
LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- The 18-year-old who died while he was on a canoe trip with a friend has been identified.
According to Michigan State Police, North Cummins is the Traverse City man who died after his canoe capsized on West Grand Traverse Bay.
It happened Sunday around 7:22 p.m.
North was with a 17-year-old in a canoe when it tipped over about 300 yards off shore.
Someone on the beach saw what happened and was able to get the 17-year-old back to shore.
The body of North was found about an hour and a half later.
Michigan State Police say the two were not wearing life jackets and had alcohol in their systems.
