      State Police warn of sweepstakes scam

      State Police said the scam letter told the person they had won the second prize in the second category of the USA Mega. The letter told them they won $355,000.

      The Michigan State Police are warning about scam claiming to be announcing a sweepstakes giveaway.

      State Police said the scam letter told the person they had won the second prize in the second category of the USA Mega. The letter told them they won $355,000.

      The company that sent the letter is titled Coastcapital Financial Services. The address is 7362 Grandville St. in Los Angeles, California - an address police said does not exist.

      Included in the letter is an explanation that the payment will be made by certified check and that there will be a $3,850 processing fee. To help with the cost of the processing fee, enclosed is a fraudulent check for $4,650. Police said if the person was to cash the check and mail the processing fee, the money to cover the fraudulent check would be taken out of the person's personal account.

      Police urged anyone else who may receive a letter like this to dispose of it by shredding. If anyone has questions about this or any other scam, to contact the State Police Alpena Post at 989-354-4101.
