Student accused of assaulting young women in dorm room formally charged
The young man accused of sexually assaulting a young woman and physically assaulting her two roommates at a Central Michigan dorm room was formally charged Tuesday.
John Daniel Rubio, 18, of Canton, was charged with home invasion first degree, assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, criminal sexual conduct fourth degree and two counts of assault and battery.
According to the Central Michigan University Police Department, Rubio entered Merrill Hall on Central Michigan's main campus at approximately 3 a.m. and entered an unlocked dorm room and sexually assaulted a young woman.
Rubio also allegedly physically assaulted two female roommates who attempted to help when they "overheard a struggle."
CMU Police arrested Rubio while he was still in Merrill Hall. He was held at the Isabella County Jail.
Rubio was released on bond with a date set for his preliminary exam. Part of his bond includes being prohibited from Central Michigan's campus. Authorities are not releasing a mug shot at this time.
