Summer travel season is taking flight

Summer air service at Cherry Capital Airport will grow by 3.8 percent in flights scheduled and by 3.7 percent in the number of seats inbound and outbound.

Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City is increasing flights for the busy summer travel season.

Summer air service will grow by 3.8 percent in flights scheduled and by 3.7 percent in the number of seats inbound and outbound. Airlines will also be offering more direct flights during the summer months.

United Airlines will offer inbound and outbound summer-season service to and from United's New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport beginning July 5th.

United Airlines also announced the addition of inbound and outbound summer-season service to and from United's hub at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport beginning June 9th. Direct United flights, both inbound and outbound from Denver, also return again this season.

In addition to the United Airlines continued increase in capacity during the critical summer months, both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines continue to offer additional summer services.

The Delta direct service to and from Atlanta is key to the continued growth in tourism from those in the southern, warm weather states looking for reprieve from the hot season.

"We continue to see an increase in travelers from these hot weather states eager to enjoy cooler, more pleasant temperatures during the summer months. "Whether they are traveling to take in 'America's Most Beautiful Place - the Sleeping Bear Dunes' or coming to play our world class golf courses throughout northern Michigan, we can get them here quickly and conveniently with direct or one stop flights," stated Kevin Klein, Airport Director.

Like the addition of the United direct service to the east coast by way of Newark, Delta Air Lines has added additional flights to LaGuardia. The east coast is also serviced by American Airlines by way of LaGuardia as well.

With the increase of flights this summer season, over 194,000 seats will be filled by June 1 through August 31, 2013.

"These enhanced services continue to show the commitment on behalf of each airline in growing our air service. Now it is our job as a community to promote, use and support the services," stated Kevin Klein, Airport Director.
