Sunscreen dispensers donated to several Grand Traverse County beaches
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- With summer in full swing, visitors to some northern Michigan parks now have one less thing to worry about when it comes to protecting their skin.
The Great Lakes Plastic Surgery Center has donated sunscreen dispensers to several parks around grand traverse county.
It's free for all park goers to use.
According to medical professionals, one in five people will develop skin cancer.
They say wearing sunscreen is one of the most effective ways to protect your skin from UV damage.
“We see an issue often with people forgetting to reapply sunscreen,” said Emily Hedley, physician assistant at the Great Lakes Plastic Surgery Center. “So we thought by providing these dispensers to the community and having easy access that the reapplication would be much more convenient for people.”
Each dispenser is filled with SPF 30 sunscreen, which the center is constantly refilling.
They currently have nine dispensers, which can be found at beaches such as Clinch Park and Bryant Park.
Four of them are portable which are currently set up throughout the National Cherry Festival.
