More than 100 cyclists rolled down the streets of Traverse City Thursday night, hoping to teach some valuable safety lessons and to send an important message.
The Light Up the Night event honored Kelly Boyce Hurlbert, the 29-year-old who was killed in a hit and run crash in July. Kelly was riding her bike downtown when she was hit by a car.
The case has not been solved, but several local organizations like Tart Trails and the Traverse City Cycling Club teamed up to make sure everyone knows the importance of bike safety.
Volunteers handed out hundreds of free bike lights at The Filling Station, and experts went over safety tips with riders. They went on a short ride through the neighborhood.
Event organizers said they want to remind folks that the search for answers in Kelly's death continues.
