ROSCOMMON COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- A track switch in the wrong position led to a train crashing into construction equipment in the Village of Roscommon.

It happened Monday around 10 p.m.

The Roscommon County Sheriff's Office says they were dispatched to the intersection of Shelly and Brooks for a train stopped.

When deputies got on scene, they saw a train had collided with a piece of equipment that was on the track.

Deputies say they spoke with the train engineer who said they were coming through the village when he noticed that there was light on that indicated the track switch was in the wrong position.

The train engineer says at that point he was going 25 mph when he hit the emergency brakes on the train. He continued to tell deputies that because the switch was in the wrong position, he went onto the secondary set of tracks where the construction equipment was parked. That's when the train then hit the equipment.
