Traverse City air passengers have new direct flight option to east coast

Cherry Capital Airport announces first ever air service to New York/Newark.

Traverse City air passengers have a new direct flight option starting this summer.

United Airlines will offer inbound and outbound summer-season service to and from United's New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport beginning July 5th.

Adding to the roster of flights taking off and landing at

Cherry Capital Airport

(TVC), airport officials say the addition of this service is an example of United's continued commitment to the tourism industry and regional business traveler.

"This enhanced service continues to show the commitment on behalf of United in growing our service. Now it is our job as a community to promote, use and support the service," stated Kevin Klein, Airport Director.

"United is pleased to offer the first-ever service between Traverse City and our New York hub at Newark Liberty," said Evan Koppel United's director of sales for the Great Lakes region. "The flights will not only offer convenient travel options between the New York area and northern Michigan, but along with the existing service to our hubs in Chicago and Denver, will provide connections to other destinations in United's global route network."

The weekend service begins with departures each Friday from Newark Liberty at 7:30 p.m., arriving TVC at 9:50 p.m., the flights will then depart TVC each Saturday at 9 a.m., arriving at Newark Liberty 11:05 a.m..

The service continues each Sunday with a Newark Liberty departure at 1:55 p.m., arriving TVC at 4:15 p.m.; then departing TVC each Sunday at 4:30 p.m., arriving at Newark Liberty at 6:37 p.m. The seasonal service will operate through August 31.

United also offers nonstop service from TVC to its hubs in Chicago and Denver.
