Traverse City Police hold sensitivity training
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU)--This week, the Traverse City Police Department is holding sensitivity and awareness training.
The training is focusing on the LGBTQ community and is being held by a Detroit police officer.
Corporal Dani Woods says she wants to bridge the gap of miscommunication between the LGBTQ community and Michigan police officers.
"Well the training is to educate those who are not familiar with the LGBTQ culture and to provide some understanding," said Officer Woods. "You know as kids, we're taught about the birds and bees, but we're not to talk about this culture. So that's what I do."
Corporal Woods is traveling across the state to educate officers from all over Michigan.
